Recently I received a very cool gift – a subscription to Cocktail Courier. Yep, all the pieces/parts needed to make an unusual cocktail delivered right to my door.
Each delivery includes a small (but not a miniature) bottle of the alcohol along with all the other ingredients needed to create the drink right down to the garnish. So far I’ve received “Coffee Talk” developed by a Chicago bartender and “Highbiscus” whose creator hails from New York City.
The Coffee Talk is an odd-sounding combo of bourbon, simple syrup, cayenne, salt, tonic water, and ground coffee beans. It’ll never get an A+ for its looks and my fellow-taster and I were convinced we’d need to strain out the ground coffee floating on the top, but after the first sip, we decided the coffee crunchiness was a weird but good addition to the drink.
The Highbiscus, a blend of gin, lemon juice, hibiscus syrup and simple syrup, is a light, almost summery drink. It goes down easily and I fear could be dangerous if you had a few of these in a row.
The best part of this fun gift is sampling cocktails at home WITHOUT investing in bottles of liquor/liqueurs that you may never drink again.
If you are looking for a unique gift for person who has everything, this might just fill the bill.
